For those who were asking in Chicago when you can start booking
rooms for Gettysburg next year the answer is right now. It sounds like Saturday rooms will be scarce, as well as expensive. Seems that this is "Graduation and Alumnae weekend"
Info for Gettysburg The hotel we will be using is the "Gettysburg Hotel" (Best Western) which is right on the circle of downtown Gettysburg. Cost per night is $119 + tax. I have 50 rooms blocked for us. There is a $3.95 parking fee per day to use the parking garage. In downtown Gettysburg there is no free parking and with this fee you can come and go as much as you like. For people that would like to arrive on Saturday May 30th the cost is $189 and for an extended stay on 6/4 and 6/5 the price is $179 per room. You can call anytime [see Reservations above] and let them know you are with the USS Conyngham Reunion Group and the dates. I would advise booking ASAP because this is the start of the busy season for Gettysburg. Also, you can check the web for a cheaper hotel for Saturday night (Days Inn, Econo Lodge, etc) but I don't know how much cheaper they would be.
There will be all day tours on both Monday and Tuesday. Monday you will
spend the morning at the new visitor center which is 139,000 square feet
with movies and the restored Cyclorama. In the afternoon you will be taken
out to Eisenhower Estate were he lived while president and until his death.
On Tuesday will be an all day tour of the battlefield with lunch on the battlefield within site of the Round Tops. The price for the tours will be in the next newsletter.
There are 2 airports that can be used to get to Gettysburg. They are the Harrisburg (about 50 mins away) and the Baltimore/Washington Airports (about 1 hr & 15 mins).
